There is no way to describe the feelings going into this year’s Bike4Chai event. On the one hand, it is a new decade, the 11th year of this amazing ride, and my tenth year being a part of it. I am the only person who has both run with Team Lifeline and will bike with Bike4Chai for ten years. It is both humbling and a great honor to be able to help the children of Chai Lifeline while at the same time making lifelong friends among campers, staff, and fellow riders/runners. On the other hand, COVID19. With all of its pain, fear, and uncertainty, there is a much yet to be determined as to this year’s ride.

As it stands now (May 15), we plan to do a one day ride. We will start at staggered times in the morning, ride past Camp Simcha (and not enter it), have lunch across from camp, and ride back to our starting point. If circumstances do not allow all of us to ride on the same day, we will split up over 5 days. No hotels, no large crowded parties and rest stops. Just a safe 100 mile bicycle ride. Just for the kids.

Just for the kids, that’s where you come in. Even though we will not be able to dance with ‘our’ kids at Camp Simcha, they will know we are riding for them. They will know that we dedicated time and effort to show our support. They will know that they are loved by strangers who pray for their health and happiness daily. They will know that hundreds of riders and thousands of supporters will never give up on them, even in the toughest of times.

This year is like no other. Many people who normally support charities such as Chai Lifeline are temporarily unable to help. At the same time, Chai Lifeline has greatly expanded its activities, daily helping new children and families in crisis. Be it a parent stricken or G-d forbid taken from us, another child diagnosed with serious illness, or a family in distress, Chai Lifeline is there for them.

With that in consideration, all I ask is that you give what you can, if you can. I am increasing my fund raising goal this year to $10,000. Because of friends and supporters like you, who believe in Chai Lifeline and understand how much their work means to thousands of children and families, I believe that together we can raise and surpass that ambitious goal.

Thank you for supporting me and, in doing so, helping children and their families cope with the diagnosis, treatment, and aftermath of serious pediatric illness.
